Answer: Introduction The internet of things is regarded as the concept of computing that makes a connection between human and things. It is ever-growing network which traits IP address for the internet connectivity. The internet of things is helpful in improving the efficiency of the business houses. Therefore, a report will be prepared in this current assignment which will be discussing the effect of internet of things on the mining industry. Effect of Internet Things on Mining Industry Increases production: The production of mining industry can be enhanced through the use of internet of things and it can improve the efficiency of operation. The supervisor can track the change in the shift, condition of the vehicle, buckets filled and transported and miners location (Bier, 2012). Thus, the internet of things can be effective in knowing the number of vehicle functioning so that instant message can be delivered to the driver in order to collect the materials or ore from the mining point. Therefore, it can help in utilizing the vehicle to fullest that can enhance the production level (Qiao and Wang, 2012). Efficiency in processes: The real time operational insights can be used in the mining industry that could be helpful in making firm decision and it can be too effective in dipping down the operation cost. On the other hand, the actuator and sensors can be useful in delivering the real time data in context to human activities and equipments work (Campbell, 2012). Therefore, it can be helpful in increasing the process efficiency. Apart from that, intervention of human can be decreased from the difficult mining area. Utilization of Assets: With the use of internet of things such as sensors and connectivity, the mining industry can improve their process in tracking of assets such as tools, machinery, equipment, etc. Therefore, from real time insights, the mining industry can be benefited that can ensure better and full utilization of available assets. For instance, the mining industry can be able to locate their assets and machinery for better utilization and throughput. Connection of mining vehicles: The internet of things can assist in providing information regarding the service vehicle before they can run to interrupt production or get break down. Therefore, in that case mining vehicles can be connected with the wireless network that can broadcast telemetry data such as load on tire, temperature of oil and engine, rotation each minute, etc (Ning, 2012). The vehicle is sent for repair if the data is out of mark. On the other hand, a notification can be delivered to supervisor if the vehicle is not functioning thus supervisor can request for other vehicle. Therefore, wireless network in truck or vehicle can be useful in providing necessary information (Ning and Hu, 2012). Safer Mining: The safety in the mining area can be improved through the internet of things. As the machines are heavy, big and powerful, which is tough for the human to handle it then using internet of things can be useful in managing the machine in effective way (Ryu, 2012). The proximity or location sensors can be integrated in the heavy machine that can help in avoiding accidents. Apart from that, warning technology like, video, radar, RF locating devices, GPS, etc can be effective in providing safe environment for mining or construction (Hersent et al. 2012). Therefore, internet of things can be valuable in protecting the workers from any injuries and conducting work in productive form. Control on resource utilization: The operational manager can track whether the equipments are utilized in complete way or not through the employment of internet of things. A connected sensor can be placed in the equipments that can provide information regarding the level of its utilization. Therefore, it can help the manager to investigate the particular machine that is not functioning properly Jia, M. and (Gao, 2013). Thus, this would manager to manage inventory and best utilization of expensive machinery or mining equipments. Therefore, sensor can be useful in checking the function of machinery and its full utilization by the employees. Autonomous operation: The autonomous or self driving trucks can be valuable for the mining industry to extract minerals or ore without employing much physical strengths. Moreover, it can keep the people safe from any damage. Therefore, in that case, a sensor, radar direction system or GPS can be installed in the trucks that can provide direction to trucks to move in particular direction and start drilling (Jianjun and Mingxing, 2013). Apart from that, Autonomous Hauling System can increase the operational efficiency. Thus, the trucks can be linked in wireless mode that can be controlled by the controller from other place. This can increase the efficiency level and more work can be extracted from the trucks. Predictive Maintenance: The preventative maintenance is important for the mining vehicles so that work can be carried in effective manner. Therefore, the vehicles can be connected with sensors for measuring things such as pressures, contamination, fluid temperatures, pitch, vibrations, gear position, engine speed, etc (Liu et al. 2015). Thus, information from these sensors can be delivered remotely to the monitoring centers so that necessary steps can be taken before any major damage can occur. Moreover, maintenance cost can be reduced and chances higher performance can be gained. Improved security and faster decision making: The internet of things can be embodied in the sensors and video cameras that can assist monitor equipment in enhancing workplace safety and can be protected from the physical threats. Therefore, connected incident response can be coordinated with the number of teams so that situations can be resolved in the faster way (Michahelles et al. 2012). On the other hand, the supervisor in the mining industry can be able to make quicker decision due to employment of internet of things.
